Hanukkah at Beth Israel Messianic Synagogue: Letting the Light Shine

December 14, 2025

Beth Israel Messianic Synagogue joyfully celebrates Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, as a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness, deliverance, and the call to let His light shine brightly in a dark world. Beginning at sundown on December 14, 2025, and lasting for eight nights, Hanukkah invites us to remember the miracle of the menorah and to reflect on the greater light God has revealed to us through Messiah Yeshua.

Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Temple after its defilement and the miraculous provision of oil that burned for eight days when only one day’s supply was expected. From a Messianic Jewish perspective, this celebration takes on even deeper meaning. Yeshua declared, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). As we light the Hanukkiah each night, we remember that God’s light cannot be extinguished—and that we are called to carry that light into the world with courage, faith, and hope.

Throughout the season, Beth Israel encourages everyone to light their Hanukkiahs at home and place them in their windows where others can see them. This beautiful tradition reflects the call to be a public testimony of God’s faithfulness, echoing Yeshua’s words: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Each flickering flame becomes a proclamation that the God of Israel is still at work, still bringing light, and still dwelling among His people.

We invite our community to share in the joy by sending us photos of your Hanukkiahs! If you would like Beth Israel to share your Hanukkah lights on social media, please email your photos to info@bethisraelnow.com or text them directly to Rabbi David. It is a wonderful way for our wider community to celebrate together and to see the light shining from many homes.

A special highlight of the season will be our Hanukkah Shabbat celebration on Saturday, December 20. This service will feature joyful Hanukkah music, a meaningful Hanukkah message, and a warm atmosphere of worship and gratitude. Following the service, everyone is invited to a special Hanukkah Oneg, where we will enjoy traditional Hanukkah treats—including delicious donuts—and sweet fellowship together.

Hanukkah at Beth Israel is more than a remembrance of a past miracle; it is a living celebration of God’s ongoing presence and victory. As we gather, worship, and light the flames together, we proclaim that the Light has overcome the darkness—and continues to shine through His people. We invite you, your family, and friends to join us for this beautiful season of celebration, reflection, and joy.
